About us

Patient ownership since 2007.

Solaris Investment Management AG was founded in 2007 in the United Kingdom and has maintained a branch office in Switzerland since 2012. This page describes what we do, why we do it and the rules we work by.

The company

Independent, privately held, accountable to its investors.

Solaris is an independent investment company founded in the United Kingdom in 2007, with a branch office in Switzerland since 2012. It is privately owned, answers to no outside shareholders and has no product to place. Its purpose is to invest, to hold, and to advise.

The company was founded in 2007 in the United Kingdom by a small group of investors and executives who had spent their careers in corporate finance, commodity trading and company ownership. They shared one observation: investors with substantial capital were being served by institutions built for a different scale, and the advice they received was shaped by the products those institutions needed to place.

Solaris was the answer. A company that could take positions on its own account, sit on boards, structure holdings, trade metals physically and advise without a conflict between what it recommended and what it sold.

Today we work with a limited number of clients and counterparties. We prefer it that way. Every mandate is handled by senior people from start to finish, and there is no layer between the person who makes the decision and the person who explains it to you.

Corporate purpose

The acquisition, holding and management of participations in companies, as well as the provision of services of all kinds, in particular in the fields of finance, advisory and management; trading in commodities and precious metals of all kinds; and advisory services in the fields of asset investment, finance and portfolio management.

History

Since 2007.

The company has grown step by step, without changing its character.

  • 2007

Solaris is founded in the United Kingdom. The first participations are acquired and the company begins advising on financial structuring for private holdings.

  • 2012

The company opens its branch office in Switzerland, bringing it closer to its investors, its counterparties in precious metals and the Swiss vault operators it works with.

  • 2014

The commodities and precious metals activity is established, with physical allocation and storage arrangements for clients holding metals as a strategic reserve.

  • 2017

The advisory and management mandate is extended to board-level engagements. Solaris begins taking active roles in portfolio companies.

  • 2020

Portfolio management advice is added as a formal field of activity, serving family offices and institutional investors with multi-asset allocations.

  • 2023

The company widens its international reach. Co-investment structures are set up with partners in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

  • Today

Solaris continues as an independent, privately held company with a stable team and a mandate that has not changed since the first day.

How we work

What you can expect from us.

  1. 01

    Senior attention

Mandates are handled by partners, not passed down. The people who sit across from you at the first meeting are the people who will execute.

  2. 02

    Independence

We do not distribute third-party products and we do not earn retrocessions. Our income comes from the capital we hold and the mandates we are paid for, and nothing else.

  3. 03

    Written reasoning

Every recommendation comes with a written case: the thesis, the risks, the exit, and what would make us change our mind. Boards and family councils can rely on it.

  4. 04

    Confidentiality

We publish no client names, no transaction details and no case studies. What we know about your affairs stays with us.

  5. 05

    Alignment

Where it makes sense, Solaris invests its own capital alongside yours. We consider that the most honest form of advice.

Governance

Structure and oversight.

Solaris is governed by a board of directors and an executive management. The company is audited annually.

Investment decisions on the company's own balance sheet are taken by an investment committee under a written policy that sets concentration limits, counterparty requirements and approval thresholds. Advisory mandates are governed by individual agreements that define scope, reporting and fees in advance.

Trading in commodities and precious metals is conducted with established counterparties and, where physical metal is involved, with independent vault operators and assayers. Clients receive title documentation for every physical position.

The company does not manage collective investment schemes and does not accept deposits. Where a mandate requires a licensed activity, it is carried out with or through appropriately licensed partners.
